🦷 What is a Dental Veneer? Definition & How it Works
A dental veneer — known as تلبيسة الأسنان (talbissa al-asnân) in Arabic — is a thin prosthetic shell, 0.3 to 0.7 mm thick, bonded to the visible surface of a tooth. Made from porcelain, lithium disilicate (e.max) or composite resin, it permanently corrects the colour, shape and minor misalignment of teeth without touching the nerve or devitalising the tooth.
Dental veneers in Tunisia are now the most requested cosmetic procedure at our clinics. Hundreds of patients travel to VIP Smile every month to transform their smile in just a few days, with an unbeatable price-to-quality ratio compared to France, the UK or Belgium.
Ultra-thin (0.3–0.7 mm)
Maximum preservation of natural enamel. Minimally invasive preparation under local anaesthetic.
100% Natural Look
Translucency identical to enamel. Custom shade on VITA guide. Nobody will know they're veneers.
Lifespan 12–20 years
With proper care, your veneers last between 12 and 20 years depending on the material chosen.
Stain Resistant
Porcelain and e.max do not stain with coffee, wine, tea or cigarettes.
What conditions are dental veneers indicated for?
- ✅ Yellow, stained or grey teeth (tetracyclines, fluorosis, age) resistant to whitening
- ✅ Chipped, fractured or superficially worn teeth
- ✅ Diastemas (gaps between teeth) — up to 2–3 mm closable without orthodontics
- ✅ Teeth that are too short, uneven or abnormally shaped
- ✅ Minor misalignment (rotations under 15°, minor offsets)
- ✅ Enamel eroded or damaged by acid reflux or acidic diet
- ✅ Desire for a uniform and perfectly symmetrical smile

🧹 Care and Lifespan of Dental Veneers
With proper care, your dental veneers fitted in Tunisia will last between 12 and 20 years. Here are the essential rules to maximise their longevity:
- 🪥 Gentle brushing 2×/day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste (RDA index < 50)
- 🧵 Daily flossing or water flosser to clean interdental spaces without damaging the bonding seal
- 🔴 Avoid biting into very hard foods: bones, ice, shelled nuts, hard caramels
- 😬 Night guard mandatory if you tend to grind your teeth (bruxism)
- 🦷 Professional cleaning at your dentist every 6 months
- ☕ Porcelain and e.max veneers do not stain with coffee, red wine, tea or tobacco — unlike natural enamel

Is the dental veneer fitting procedure painful?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and is therefore completely painless during the session. Mild temperature sensitivity may appear in the days following the fitting; this is normal and disappears within 1 to 4 weeks. Mild painkillers are sufficient to manage it.
How many dental veneers are needed for a beautiful smile?
The number depends on your smile. As a rule, 6 to 8 teeth are treated for a naturally enhanced smile (Real Smile) and 10 to 16 teeth for a complete transformation (Hollywood Smile). Our Digital Smile Design allows you to visualise the result before deciding.
Do dental veneers damage the teeth?
The preparation is irreversible (light reduction of 0.3 to 0.5 mm), but it does not weaken the tooth if carried out correctly. The tooth remains vital and the veneers even protect it against staining and daily wear. A qualified practitioner like those at VIP Smile Tunisia optimises the preparation to preserve as much natural tissue as possible.
What is the lifespan of a dental veneer in Tunisia?
A porcelain veneer lasts 12 to 18 years and an e.max veneer 15 to 20 years with good care. Some patients have worn their veneers for more than 20 years without issue. Longevity depends mainly on oral hygiene, the absence of untreated bruxism and the possible use of a night guard.
Can dental veneers be placed on devitalised teeth?
Yes, this is entirely possible. A devitalised tooth can receive a veneer if it remains sufficiently strong and the root is healthy. In some cases, a crown is preferable to a veneer on a severely weakened tooth. Our practitioner will assess the optimal solution during the initial consultation.
